Kids in need get to “Shop With A Cop”

There were a lot of smiles, laughs and good cheer on December 6 as Lakewood Sheriff’s deputies helped brighten the holidays for 35 children from the Lakewood area facing tough circumstances through the annual “Shop With A Cop” program.

The event started with a free dinner donated by StoneFire Grill at Lakewood Center, followed by a short trip in patrol cars with lights flashing to Target at the mall.  There, the children were treated by Target, StoneFire Grill and Lakewood Center to some free holiday shopping as deputies guided the kids around the store and helped them pick out a good gift.

The annual “Shop With A Cop” program helps children in need from the communities served by the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station and builds good community-public safety relations. The children are identified as those in economic or other need by Lakewood Sheriff’s Station clergy, local schools, deputies based on interactions with local families, and Lakewood’s Project Shepherd program.
